Vakna

Vakna is a game created by Sebastian Finzenhagen. It takes place in icelandic nature and shows the player the real beauty of human nature.

With this project we combined our final university degree projects.

The game is still work in progress. But one of the most important moments in the game is unlocking certain areas by “awakening” – which sounds like this little clip here.

“Feeling sound” – sound studies

As part of my Bachelor degree and in preparation to scoring and designing sound for this game I researched, how being naked in nature feels and how I could convert these feelings into sounds. Since Vakna is a walking simulator I focused a lot on my feet for my researches.

Footsteps play an important role in computer games – you want to know what ground you are walking on.

I challenged myself to create footstep sounds on surfaces, where the sound itself evokes a feeling. I recommend trying these out while you walk!
